1. Elizabeth Bennet had been obliged, by the scarcity of gentlemen, to sit down for two dances; and during part of that time, Mr. Darcy had been standing near enough for her to hear a conversation between him and Mr. Bingley, who came from the dance for a few minutes, to press his friend to join it.
“Elizabeth Bennet, janoblarning yetishmasligi sababli, ikki raqsga o‘tirishga majbur bo‘ldi; va shu vaqtning bir qismida, janob Darcy shunchalik yaqin turib, u janob Bingley bilan bo‘lgan suhbatni eshitdi, u esa raqsdаdan bir necha daqiqa kelib, do‘stini qo‘shilishga undadi.”
2. If my vanity had taken a musical turn, you would have been invaluable; but as it is, I would really rather not sit down before those who must be in the habit of hearing the very best performers.
“Agar mening o‘zimni ko‘rsatish istagim musiqaga qaratilganida, siz bebaho bo‘lardingiz; lekin hozirgi holatda, men haqiqatan ham eng yaxshi ijrochilarni eshitishga odatlanganlar oldida o‘tirishni istamayman.”
3. I know very well, madam, that when persons sit down to a card-table, they must take their chances of these things, and happily I am not in such circumstances as to make five shillings any object.
“Men juda yaxshi bilaman, xonim, odamlar kartochka stoliga o‘tirganda, bunday holatlarni qabul qilishlari kerak, va baxtimga, besh shilingni ahamiyatli qiladigan holatda emasman.”
5. Elizabeth, who had a letter to write, went into the breakfast room for that purpose soon after tea; for as the others were all going to sit down to cards, she could not be wanted to counteract her mother’s schemes.
“Elizabeth, xat yozishi kerak bo‘lganligi sababli, choydan keyin tezda nonushta xonasiga kirdi; chunki boshqalar kartochkalarga o‘tirayotgan bo‘lsa, ona rejalari bilan xalaqit berishga u kerak bo‘lmas edi.”
6. Let us sit down. You are to understand, Miss Bennet, that I came here with the determined resolution of carrying my purpose; nor will I be dissuaded from it. I have not been used to submit to any person’s whims. I have not been in the habit of brooking disappointment.
“Keling, o‘tiraylik. Miss Bennet, tushunishingiz kerak, men bu yerga qat’iy maqsad bilan keldim; va uni o‘zgartirishga hech kimning fikri meni to‘xtata olmaydi. Men hech kimning xohishlariga bo‘ysunishga odatlanmaganman va xafa bo‘lishga ham odat qilmaganman.”
